Did you know that physical therapy can help with dizziness and balance problems? Many of my patients are surprised when they first come in. They often say, “I had no idea PT could treat this!” or “I’m so happy to finally have someone who understands what’s going on and knows how to fix it!”

Dizziness is More Common Than You Think

According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), about 40% of people in the U.S. will experience dizziness or balance issues at some point in their lives. That’s almost half of us!

Common Symptoms of a Balance Problem

People with vestibular system issues often describe their symptoms as:

  • Feeling unsteady or like they might fall

  • A swimming sensation in their head

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness

  • Feeling like they’re on a rocking boat

  • Spinning, also called vertigo

  • Swaying or floating

  • Feeling like they might pass out

What is Vestibular Rehab?

Physical therapy that helps with dizziness and balance problems is called vestibular rehab. The vestibular system, found inside your inner ear, works with your eyes and balance sensors (called proprioceptors) to keep you steady. If one of these systems isn’t working right, you may feel dizzy or off-balance.

Vestibular rehab helps by:
✅ Identifying the root cause of the problem
✅ Using specific exercises to train your eyes, inner ear, and balance system
✅ Helping you feel steadier and reducing dizziness over time
