Hands-On Treatment

Manual Therapy

Hands-on treatment of joints and soft tissue, from a Certified Manual Physical Therapist.

10001

18

month residency through IMPACT, earning the CMPT designation in 2015.

Alison is specially trained in instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (similar to ASTYM or Graston), in addition to being a Certified Manual Physical Therapist (CMPT).

Manual therapy means treatment delivered by hand — assessing how a joint moves, then working directly on the joint and the tissue around it. It is rarely the whole plan. It is usually what makes the exercises work.

Every appointment is one-on-one with Alison. You are not handed to an aide partway through.

How a manual therapy session runs

01
Assessment by hand

Alison feels how the joint moves and where it stops, which tells her something an image cannot.

02
Hands-on treatment

Joint mobilization and soft tissue work, including instrument-assisted techniques where useful.

03
Movement retraining

What you do between visits is what holds the change. You leave with something specific to do.

CMPT — Certified Manual Physical Therapist

Earned in 2015 through an intensive 18-month residency with the Institute of Manipulative Physiotherapy & Clinical Training.
